SELWOOD STEAM AND VINTAGE VEHICLE PRESERVATION SOCIETY
VINTAGE RALLY
26th - 27th MAY 2012
SOUTHWICK
Nr TROWBRIDGE
Wiltshire
The Selwood show is a non profit making and friendly event held to display an extensive range of nostalgic exhibits, most of which can be seen working.
The 2011 show was excellent but marred by dark skies and drizzle which unfortunately affected attendance. Saturday and Sunday went well if a bit overcast. The Monday was particularly unfortunate with persistent light precipitation but the show carried on for the benefit of the 90 or so public that braved the drizzle that day.
We were favoured to have a few large steam engines and a good selection of excellent miniature steamers which had taken their owners thousands of hours of loving preparation to reach their high standard for the show.
We were particularly thankful to Blackmore Vale MCC for putting on an excellent display of motorcycle trials riding and to Cross Manufacturing who displayed their heritage museum motorcycles (see below).
In addition to the above mentioned, highlights of the show included:
Steam Railway giving free rides. This was particularly popular.
Fairground Organ playing a good selection of quality music.
Childrens’ Traditional Fairground courtesy of Roger Dees.
A Childrens’ zoo of micro pigs, goats and ponies.
Classic Motorcycles dating from 1924
Military Vehicles
Vintage Cars from Morris Minors To Bentley
Vintage Tractors
Commercial Vehicles dating from a 1916 Ford vehicle.
Displays of working agricultural machinery.
Miscellaneous interesting displays of rare collections
Stationary engines - the old powerhouses of the farm.
Craft displays of cross-cut sawing and pole lathing.
Catering by Hannah and her team from ARH Event Catering who also provided the excellent Beer and refreshment tent.
Bouncy Castle and Go-Cart Rides
Good evening entertainment in the Beer tent.

Cross Manufacturing of Combe Down, Bath attended again this year. They received a great deal of interest in their display of pioneering motorcycle development work. This example of local engineering expertise is to be marvelled. The following downloadable historic Cross articles are very interesting and well worth a read:
